Armor of God
A meditation on Ephesians 6:10 – 20, with references to chapters 4 and 5 because, well, context! Invasion force, occupation force, or something else? What is the use of…
The Armor of God
Pray for me, his ambassador in chains
Chained between these Roman guards
This is my vocation,
Pray so that when I open my mouth
I reveal the mystery of the Gospel
Under Roman authority — the armored guards —
Chained, and free:
I see the symbols of human power,
That power crucified Christ.
The weakness of God is stronger than men [1 Cor 1:25]
Put on the Armor of God
Finally, for the evil day,
After you have done everything,
But not against flesh and blood
As a prisoner in the Lord, therefore, I urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you have been called. Live with all humility, gentleness, and patience, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as also you were called in the one hope of your calling. There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all, and through all, and in us all.
Do not walk any longer as the Gentiles walk, in their futile way of thinking. They are darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, due to the hardness of their hearts. Because they have no sense of shame, they have given themselves over to sensuality, with an ever-increasing desire to practice every kind of impurity.
Consider carefully, then, how you walk, not as unwise people, but as wise people. Make the most of your time, because the days are evil. For this reason, do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.
Wives, husbands, children, fathers, slaves, masters
All, as Christ loves his church
Giving himself to make all holy
Serve with eagerness
Finally, Put on the full Armor of God
Truth, Righteousness, Peace,
The Word of God
At every opportunity Pray
Become what I am except for these chains [Acts 26:29]
Not a warrior.
To guard your hearts and minds in Peace. [Philippians 4:7]
