Compass

Dan Howard   -

The compass is a pretty important piece of equipment. In fact, an argument can be made it is one of the most important inventions in all of history. It allowed brave explorers to set out and boldly go where no one has gone before. It allowed people to map where they had been, and know which direction they were going. It looks simple, but what it does is essential. I was recently re-watching one of my favorite movies: Pirates of the Caribbean In that movie one of the main protagonists, a certain Jack Sparrow….excuse me, CAPTAIN Jack Sparrow is being arrested and ridiculed for the equipment he carried. Amongst it those items was a compass that didn’t point North. It made him look silly and foolish. Certainly that compass was a broken piece of junk! It was not until later we discover that the compass does not lead North but instead it leads to what your heart wants most! Wouldn’t that be a great thing to have?  Wouldn’t it be great if we had something to guide us through life?

We do have that compass. Look with me at 2 Timothy 3:16

All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.

We have been given the Scripture, the Holy Bible, the very Words of God.
As Paul wrote to Timothy, we know that the Bible is profitable…beneficial….for many things.

Reproof – to express disapproval
Correction – to guide on properly
Training – to teach and enforce a behavior

All that your life may be complete. I don’t know of anyone who wakes up and says “Man, I wish my life would lose something,” or perhaps “Man, I am so glad my life seems incomplete.” Most people I talk to are upset when they feel they are missing something. As Christians we do have that compass that directs us where to go.

Do you turn to it?
How often do you check your bearings?
Do you trust your compass?
God has laid out a course for you.

Psalm 23:2-3 “He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.”

And to walk that course he has given you the Holy Spirit…and its blessings….

Galatians 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,

We are entering a new season. Things are reopening, restrictions are ending. Now is a time to move forward. As you go I have to ask you….do you know your bearings?

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” – Jeremiah 29:11
